Design Files

A printable file is not just geometry. It carries rights and responsibility.

Discover model platforms, learn licensing basics and try a local design-passport demo for future provenance workflows.

Licensing basics

Know what you are allowed to do.

  • Personal-use files generally do not permit commercial sales.
  • Attribution requirements still apply when a file is remixed.
  • Commercial licenses may be limited by time, quantity or subscription.
  • Trademarks, characters and product safety can create separate obligations.
  • Open-source hardware licenses may govern documentation and derivatives.
  • Never assume “free download” means unrestricted ownership.

Create a demo design passport

Add metadata to create a local demonstration passport.

How a tokenized design passport could work

A production-ready system would hash the file and important metadata while storing the actual design in an appropriate private or content-addressed location. The public record could reference the creator, version, license, authorized quantity and royalty terms. A printer could then produce a signed build record linked to that passport.

Privacy and security: Do not place confidential CAD files, regulated medical data, export-controlled designs or trade secrets directly on a public blockchain.
